Many people think that having a website is all they need to succeed in e-commerce. Is this assumption true? Anytime you ask me this question, my answer would be the same, NOT ENTIRELY.  It’s not about having a website; it’s about having a right a website. A right website will bring visitors, convince visitors to share your link with others and will prompt visitors to buy your products or services. A right website should have all the elements of a successful website.

So if you want to have a website, you need to look at those successful websites and borrow the elements which made them successful. Some of these elements include;

  1. Good Visual Design

Your choice of design is important. The design you choose should be one which works well with the industry you operate in. You should also pay a lot of attention to the position of the logo, font type, and size, the theme used, a layout and colors. You should also consider the use of white space.

  1. Content

The content of your website should be well written, no errors, valuable information, nicepictures of products and services, terms and conditions, privacy policies as well as user security. As someone said, the content should answer the question “what’s in it for me”?

  1. Navigation

The website should be easy to navigate from one page to another. Visitors to your website will not have all that time trying to guess how to move from page to another. You can place navigation bar at the top, bottom or both. If it suits you, you can also consider sidebar navigation.

  1. Call to Action

The call to action will prompt visitors into action. The call to action can convey different messages depending on the objective of a specific page. You may just want people to subscribe for updates and future people, the call to action, in that case, should prompt people to subscribe by inserting their name and email or whichever form of subscription deemed appropriate.

  1. Credibility

You should win the trust of your visitors. A good website should have a design and content that can win the trust of the visitors. For example, you should assure users of their privacy in case they want to share their information with you. The website should also be free of malware that can affect the user’s devices. Most importantly, the credibility should also relate to service of product offered. You should provide information that makes visitors to trust you as a good provider of the service or product you offer.

Take time and work on your website well. It may take your time but it’s a worthy investment that will reward you for periods to come in future.
